The Filters

The Filters is an indie alternative math outfit that was formed by co-founders Ian Francis Khoo (lead vocals and guitar) and Aiman Shakirin (drums), with the later addition of Reuben Ravi (bass and keyboard). All three members attended the same high school where they first met under the association of the school’s brass band. Despite their dissimilar tastes in music, the trio began writing and crafting fully formed songs by the end of 2013. The band’s lineup was then complete with the subsequent addition of Iain Chan (guitarist).

The Filters’ unique sound stems from a multitude of genres due to their highly unconventional recording techniques and experimental nature of fusing multiple elements from various musical sources – exemplified in the intriguing, engaging, and multi-layered textures present in their songs.

Born and bred in KL, The Filters’ tenacious onstage presence and aspirations to spread new thought-provoking music to their generation’s masses bear all the makings that this is only the beginning for this homegrown act.
